As part of the School and Business Systems group, Systemic provides ongoing application development, integration and support services to the Department of Education WA. The work sits within a large and complex digital environment used daily by schools and staff across the state, focusing on engineering, enhancement delivery and integration across several critical systems.
The challenge
The Department’s application landscape has evolved over many years. Some systems are modern and scalable, while others carry legacy constraints and accumulated technical debt. All must remain stable and reliable for a large statewide workforce. The challenge was not simply introducing new functionality but maintaining stability across critical systems while reducing risk in legacy environments. Improvements needed to be delivered continuously without disrupting operations, while integration across interconnected platforms had to be strengthened to support more reliable data and workflows.
The solution
Systemic delivers steady enhancements across the application portfolio, improving performance, introducing new capabilities and modernising frameworks where appropriate. Our work includes targeted refactoring to reduce technical debt, ongoing integration engineering across APIs and structured release management aligned with governance processes. In one significant initiative, we redesigned and redeveloped a high-volume screening and verification system. The new solution introduced clearer workflows and modern identity capabilities, increasing processing efficiency while maintaining operational stability.
